The Suburban Cook County Tuberculosis Sanitarium District

Text Box: Important News
As of July 25, 2007 the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) will assume responsibility for tuberculosis (TB) care and treatment for residents of suburban Cook County. In 2006 the Governor signed legislation passed in the Illinois General Assembly which dissolved the Suburban Cook County Tuberculosis Sanitarium District.
Please continue to report all cases of TB to the suburban Cook County TB Program and refer patients to the clinic locations in Forest Park, Harvey and Des Plaines for evaluation and treatment. Please call the TB Program staff at 708-497-5000 with any questions pertaining to TB surveillance and to the care and management of patients.
Text Box: Tuberculosis does not respect geographic borders. It is a significant contributor to the global burden of disease and is well suited for intercontinental travel. Migration and immigration, combined with less than perfect testing means cases get by, even with screening.

Despite the constant challenge TB presents worldwide and locally, it is kept in check in suburban Cook County through the diligent work of the Suburban Cook County Tuberculosis Sanitarium District (SCCTSD). The SCCTSD’s innovative methodology of tuberculosis control helps position us at the forefront of research, education and treatment.
