The Suburban Cook County Tuberculosis Sanitarium District

Text Box: Directly Observed Therapy (DOT)

Directly observed therapy ensures adherence to and completion of treatment by requiring patients to take their medication while a field nurse, health care worker or their designated person is observing. Medication is brought directly to each person at their home, business or school and is administered in this manner on a daily or bi-weekly basis for a period of six months to more than a year, depending on the case. Each case is closely monitored so that no patient falls through the cracks. The District’s outpatient clinics located in Harvey, Forest Park, and Des Plaines also provide DOT.
